What exactly does IEEE 1656 mean? Do other manufacturers have IEEE 1656 compliant guards?

1656 compliance means products have been tested to demonstrate electrical (won’t flashover if a contact occurs), mechanical (won’t fall off), and outdoor durability (UV, cold temperatures, salt fog) performance on systems rated up to 38kV. 

There may be others with 1656 compliant products. We strongly recommend that customers always verify if products have been subjected to the complete test sequence outlined in the guideline. Achieving favorable results in one of the required tests does not equal a compliant product.
